ABOUT

Double and Electric bass player

Stefano Galassi is an Italian double bassist and electric bassist, primarily active in Ferrara. He has performed with ensembles of various sizes — from intimate duos to full orchestras — and appeared at numerous international, national and regional festivals, including the Bologna Jazz Festival, JazzMI, Ravenna Jazz Festival, Modena Jazz Festival, Ferrara Musica e Lirica, the Metropolitan Jazz Festival of Bologna, and Rimini's Sagra Malatestiana, among others. Alongside his performing activity, he has developed a significant body of work for theatre, collaborating regularly with C.A.R.P.A. Centro Artistico di Ricerca Periferie Attive and A.R.T.I. Teatro. He graduated with honours in Jazz Double bass and Jazz Electric Bass from the Conservatorio G. Frescobaldi in Ferrara, and has furthered his training through masterclasses and workshops, including those organised by Siena Jazz.

Composer - Improviser

Stefano's creative work extends beyond performance into composition, arrangement, and sound design. He is a long-standing collaborator of A.R.T.I. Teatro, for whom he composes and arranges original music, performs live on stage, and crafts immersive soundscapes for theatrical productions. Recent productions include: Danse Macabre, P.O.P. – Piccola Orchestra Pasolini, Still Life – In a Genius Mind, Bomba – My Body is at War, Fegato. His work with C.A.R.P.A. (Centro Artistico Ricerca Periferie Attive) includes projects such as the podcast Se non son Gigli, recorded at Ferrara's correctional facility, Traccia Fantasma for Esterno Verde, and Hosting on the Road, an immersive site-specific audioguide.

Teacher

Stefano brings the same depth and curiosity he applies to his artistic practice into the classroom. He teaches Electric Bass, Double Bass and Ensemble Playing at EMA Estense Music Academy in Ferrara, offering both in-person and online lessons tailored to students of all levels — from beginners taking their first steps to more advanced players looking to refine their technique and musical vocabulary. His teaching practice has a particular focus on inclusive education. He also organises masterclasses, workshops, and training courses.

Live sound engineer

Alongside his work as a performer and educator, Stefano is also active as a live sound engineer, working with audio and lighting companies in the Ferrara area on musical events and live performances. His experience on both sides of the stage gives him a unique perspective on the relationship between sound, space, and performance — making him a versatile and reliable presence in live production contexts.

MUSIC

Past1trio

Past1 Trio is the musical union of Federico Rubin, Stefano Galassi, and Gianfilippo Invincibile in the classic piano trio format. Performing original compositions arranged collectively, they traverse musical landscapes where the hermeticism of Paul Bley, the spaciousness of Bobo Stenson, and the colours of Marc Copland find their echo.

Founded in Ferrara in 2018 and rooted in the creative community of the Torrione — the city's historic jazz venue — the trio won the "Mr. Jazz": competition in 2019 and released Missteps Session, a live recording featuring Federico Pierantoni, Luca Chiari, and Anaïs del Sordo, later that year. In 2021 they took first prize at the "Largo ai Giovani" competition organised by the "Dai de Jazz" association in Emilia Romagna. After two years of live performances and collective arranging, they released their debut album Hidden Dances in March 2023 on Battentë Sound Records, recorded at Art Music Studio in Bassano del Grappa, with a guest appearance by Daniele D'Alessandro on clarinet. Their second album of original compositions is set to be recorded in summer 2026.

A.R.T.I. Teatro

A.R.T.I. – Area di Ricerche Teatrali Indipendenti is a collective of young artists founded in Naples in 2007, whose theatrical poetics is rooted in the search for new languages and the relationship between actor and spectator, with a particular focus on the experimental theatre of the second half of the 20th century.Stefano collaborates with A.R.T.I. as musician, composer, and performer — contributing to the creation of original music, arrangements, and soundscapes that shape each production's identity. One of their most celebrated collaborations is "P.O.P. – Piccola Orchestra Pasolini", a musical cabaret celebrating the life and work of Pier Paolo Pasolini — poet, director, author, and revolutionary intellectual who crossed generational, political, and cultural boundaries to reach everyone, from academics to southern Italian farmers. The show blends moments of striking poetic force with irony and humour, weaving together stornelli, film soundtracks, and music freely inspired by Comizi d'amore, the songs written for Laura Betti and Gabriella Ferri, and Pasolini's poetry. Already performed across Europe — including Greece, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark, and Poland — P.O.P. continues to bring Pasolini's ardour and passion to stages far and wide.

Another significant collaboration is "Still Life – In a Genius Mind", dedicated to the life of Vincent Van Gogh. It is Van Gogh's last night. Inside his mind, five female figures — his little sister, his mother, a prostitute, his sister-in-law, and a model — retrace the most intense moments of his life in existential, creative, and destructive terms. Are they hallucinations or ghosts? In a world where powerful algorithms paint pictures, shape our tastes, and mediate our relationships, is there still a place for artists? And if so, what kind?

These are just two examples of an ongoing creative dialogue — with several productions already performed and new ones in development for 2026.

C.A.R.P.A. Centro Artistico Ricerca Periferie Attive

C.A.R.P.A. — Centro Artistico di Ricerca Periferie Attive — is a Ferrara-based cultural association founded in 2020 with a focus on community theatre, social inclusion, and artistic education. Working at the intersection of performance and civic engagement, C.A.R.P.A. develops projects in marginalised urban contexts, prisons, and public spaces, collaborating with local communities, schools, and national institutions. The association runs theatre workshops, training programmes, and community music initiatives, while co-producing theatrical performances and participating in regional and national cultural networks. In 2025, C.A.R.P.A. was awarded the national Movin'Up Spettacolo grant by the Italian Ministry of Culture, and became an official member of the Magdalena Project, an international network of women in the performing arts.In winter 2025, Stefano produced the podcast Se non son Gigli, recorded during the permanent theatre workshop for inmates of Section Z of the C. Satta Detention Centre in Ferrara, in agreement with the facility's Direction.

His other projects with C.A.R.P.A. include Traccia Fantasma, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered for the Esterno Verde Festival (Associazione il Turco) — an audio piece based on Mario Soldati's text "I colori di Bondeno", designed to accompany visitors and cyclists along the Po riverbank near Ferrara, among herons, pheasants, and farmhouses — and Hosting on the Road, a site-specific audio guide funded in 2022 by the Italian Ministry of Culture – Fondo Unico dello Spettacolo, listenable by scanning the QR code in the main park of Pontelagoscuro, near the Po river.

Gramophone4et

Imagine four friends sitting around the same table. In the middle, an old gramophone and a pile of dusty records. They exchange a glance, and without a word, a dark-haired girl reaches out and picks one — gently, as if she already knows. We listen together, and somewhere during the listening, as if caught in a spontaneous dance, we rise, walk to our instruments, and begin to play — carrying the music forward long after the needle has lifted. That is, more or less, the spirit of an evening with Gramophone 4et.

Active since 2020, Gramophone 4et offers a personal reinterpretation of selected works from the Italian and international singer-songwriter tradition. The four musicians perform both live concerts and concert-lectures, a format designed to bring the stories behind the music to life.

MULTIBOX

Multibox is a crossover musical project blending improvisation with electronic and rock textures.

The debut album "Eleven Tokens", released in 2022 by Emme Record Label, was entirely composed during the spring of 2020, in full lockdown. The project set out to build distinct timbral "boxes" — layered and mixed at shifting time intervals — creating textures and ambient soundscapes that form the very essence of the compositions, preceding melody and harmony altogether.

SUPERSOUL

Supersoul is a live music project dedicated to the Soul and R&B repertoire, drawing from the classic Motown catalogue through to more contemporary sounds, with references to Funk and Disco. The setlist balances moments of musical depth with high-energy passages, designed to move audiences from the first note to the last.

Voices of Resistance — Voci contro il silenzio
In addition to traditional live concerts, Supersoul presents a narrative concert format sitting halfway between theatre and concert. Voices of Resistance weaves together music and storytelling, paying homage to the great African-American singers of the R&B, Soul, and Funk tradition. Through their voices and lyrics, these artists carried forward not only a musical revolution, but also a deeply personal and political struggle against every form of oppression — including that against women. A musical and social journey through pain, pride, resilience, and rebirth.
